Selection based on interest form and phone interview with the Centre for Civil Society is offering a Career Guidance Industry Program for pre-college students (13-to-18-year-olds) to learn the ins and outs of taking up Law & Public Policy as a Career. Join the live career mentoring sessions, work on practical cases, assignments and above all, interact directly with experienced lawyers and leading policymakers.

Get prepared to learn the foundation of Indian Laws, work on legal assignments, participate in a Mock Trial, and strengthen your college application with an experience Certificate you earn.

Student selection to be based on application,

spread across 5 to 6 weeks

Session 1: Introduction to a Law Career

Gain a first-hand account of what it is like to be a Lawyer and the challenges+perks that come with the profession. Centre for Civil Society introduces you to the various options available after law school and how you could navigate to a career path that matches your potential, interest, and skills.

Session 2: Introduction to Public Policy

How does the Government function? What do some policies work and some don’t? Get an in-depth understanding of Public Policy as you interact exclusively with industry professionals to learn how some policies work, and some don’t, and how to ask the right policy questions — a foundation session that will give you a career introduction to Public Policy.

Session 3 & 4: Fundamental Rights and The Indian Constitution

Build a strong foundation before law school on core concepts including Fundamental Rights and the Indian Constitution – taught to you in a simple and jargon-free manner. You also get to understand the philosophy behind the Indian Laws, the Judicial System (Hierarchy) and how it is used in today’s landmark cases.

In addition, you will learn the skills to analyze and read judgements efficiently and ways to approach lengthy judgements.

Session 5: Contracts and Legal Writing

Gain vital legal skills in drafting, clear, precise, and concise legal materials including contracts with the guidance from lawyers at the Centre for Civil Society. You also get introduced to E-contracts and how they can impact or impede legal protection for clients.

Session 6: Moot Court

Learn the mechanics of Litigation by participating in a simulated trial. Students receive a legal case where they get an experiential opportunity to learn legal reasoning and work on their presentation/communication + teamwork skills. All participants receive feedback and suggestions on their mock trials from an experienced lawyer.

Session 7: Law & Policy

Develop your knowledge about Citizen Rights and filing RTI while you get introduced to law-making bodies in the parliament. Analyze how governments play an important role in a legal ecosystem and their crucial role in formulating policies — a hands-on experiential learning session that will give you an understanding of how law and public policy work closely.

Session 8: Appeals and Litigations

Civil Litigation is one of the most sought-after career paths for Lawyers. Learn first-hand the outcomes of Litigation – Criminal vs Civil, Damages, Restitution and more. Students also get introduced to appeals at the various stages of the litigation process and how appeals can be filed in the Indian court.

The program is concluded with career guidance, suggestions and professional tips to all students from experienced lawyers and public policy professionals.

What will I Learn?

This is an intensive career mentoring program for those who wish to explore their career interest in law and test the waters to see if the legal profession is for them. As part of the online program, you get to participate in a mock trial, learn how to navigate the legal nuances, and work on industry-relevant legal assignments – a mentoring experience not typically found in high school curricula!

Certificates awarded to students upon program participation, case study discussion, assignment submission and mock trial participation.

Our students use this Certificate for college applications, portfolios, resume for internships and job recruitment. Certificate strictly cannot be used to practise law.

In this one-of-a-kind Mentorship, CCS plans to share their knowledge, skills, and learnings with college-bound students curious about a law career – an experience most lawyers wish they had when in school.

How much does the course cost?

Our Certified Law & Legal Studies course for students (13-to-18-year-olds) costs Rs. 7250/- only per student. Students need to participate in sessions+mock trial and submit the assignments on time to qualify for achieving the certificate from Centre for Civil Society and

Why is there a fee?

This mentorship is an exclusive mentorship with limited seating per class, made better through online delivery and an intensive curriculum designed by an experienced industry professional. A minimal fee is charged to sustain ourselves, pay our staff for the maintenance of our organization, and to the mentors who invest significant effort and time in conducting personalized training for you.

What is the duration of the program?

The Mentorship is planned online on Zoom. Program is tentatively planned for the summers of April-May 2023 once more than 15 students are confirmed. We recommend students to submit their applications early before the seats get full.

Do you offer scholarships?
