Unherd in association with Destination Heritage is offering a few students (13-20-year-olds) an opportunity to interact with profound historians to learn about a career in History. A certified Mentorship exclusively for pre-college students who have an interest in History and willing to explore a spectrum of careers that the subject has to offer.
What will I Learn?
This is a certified program for students who get to interact with experienced archaeologists, epigraphists, archivists, and other professional historians from Destination Heritage – a Mentorship that encourages participants to learn about the practise of History and the essential skills required in the field.

Career Introduction
Get introduced to the professional life of archaeologists, epigraphists, museum curators, and archivists. Ask the experts about a career in history, colleges/courses to apply to, salary with work expectations, and more. A class that helps you get an overview about History as a profession.
Interdisciplinary History
From Tolstoy’s short stories to the Partition of India, get insights using case studies that help to reflect on the association of history with various academic disciplines. Explore the non-traditional topics, popular culture history, biographies along with urban history.
Interdisciplinary Epigraphy
Get to know how epigraphs as a primary source help to reconstruct ancient Indian history and its association with disciplines such as archaeology, paleography and numismatics. With an introduction to the Brahmi script and examples of inscriptions, get introduced to Epigraphy.
History and Storytelling
Learn how humans are hardwired to tell history in stories and ways in which it can form a hypothesis on the subject based on different narratives. After all, stories need an element of History!

Destination Heritage is an organization that helps one to discover and understand our rich Indian Cultural Heritage. They provide a forum to learn about Indian Heritage through structured talks, walks, lectures, seminars, and festival series. In this one-of-a-kind Mentorship, Destination Heritage plans to educate students about a career in History and the lucrative professions it could offer to those genuinely interested in the subject.
Dr. Githa U Badikillaya
Dr. Githa U Badikillaya is the Founder Trustee of Destination heritage, an organization that is into creating an informed awareness of India’s rich cultural heritage by way of talks, walks, curated cultural shows, exhibitions, seminars and webinars. She is a life member of the Indian Art History Congress and the chief editor of a commemorative volume that will be published soon. She taught Indian Art, Architecture, and Hinduism for students from the U.S as guest faculty at Christ University for 5 years till 2015. As a researcher, she has documented the socio-religious dynamics of 4 Kumbh Melas. She was Central Advisory Board Member for Child labor, 2008-2011, GOI. She is MSc, PGDip (Indology), PGDip (Journalism).
Dr. T. S Ravishankar
A retired Director (Epigraphy), ASI, Mysore, Dr. Ravishankar has a Doctorate in Sanskrit. His area of specialization is in Early Scripts of Northern India, Prakrit, and Sanskrit inscriptions. He teaches Epigraphy and Palaeography to the students of Institute of Archaeology, ASI New Delhi.
Mr. Gurjit Singh
After completing his education from Mayo College, Mr Singh went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and finished his post-graduation in International Studies from the School of International Studies, JNU, New Delhi. He has served as an ambassador of India to Germany, Indonesia, Ethiopia and Republic of Djibouti. He has also represented India as the African Union and ASEAN Chair. Mr. Singh is the Deputy Permanent Representative of India to UNEP and UN-HABITAT. He has authored five books on India’s relations with various countries.
Dr Suresh K Srivastava
Dr. Suresh is an experienced professor of History with demonstrated teaching experience on Medieval Indian History and Chinese History. An education professional with a Senior Cambridge, B.A. (Hons), History, M.A., and a Ph.D. from Hindu College, University of Delhi where he also served as an Associate Professor. He is now retired and presently stays in Singapore pursuing his hobby in photography.
Aniket S Sharma
Aniket S Sharma, a native Indian, is an ardent follower of Indian ancient history and mythology. He loves to research lesser-known heroes of history and dig out the known unknowns. He believes that “If the seeds of our ancient culture are sowed, it will produce the fruits for better youth.” He is a devoted reader, an avid blogger, a host for talk shows on Indian History, and conducts storytelling sessions.
